Valentine’s Day is usually a romantic day for couples, but many people choose to celebrate the holiday in other ways. If you want to show your dog how much you love them on Valentine’s Day, here are a few ideas on how to make the day special.

Spend Time Together

What is the most valuable thing we have? Its our time. The number one best way to show your dog how much you love them is to spend time with them. Chihuahuas may be longer lived than other dogs, but it is still a fraction of our own lifetimes.

Spending time together is one of the strongest ways of showing your love. Great ways to spend time together include:

  • Going hiking
  • Taking a walk
  • Getting a pup cup
  • Watching a movie together
  • Doing some training together

Which one you choose really depends on your dog’s age and personality. When Leia was younger, a hike was her favorite thing to do. At 15 years old, her favorite is now curling up in my lap while I pet her for an entire movie. What could be better?

Do A Little Pampering

Let’s be clear hear, your dog is not going to thank you for taking them to the groomers on Valentine’s Day. That’s the sort of thing you do the day before Valentine’s day, so they smell nice for the holiday and have something to compare the holiday to. (Going for walkies on Valentine’s Day with mom is way more fun than going to the groomer the day before, as an example.)

Pampering your dog might actually enjoy includes things like a deep tissue massage, creating a cozy Valentine’s Day themed nook in the house for them to snuggle into, or make them some Valentine’s Day treats. You can even try taking those treats on a picnic, combing outdoor enrichment with wonderful flavors your dog will love!

Take Photos

To commemorate the occasion, taking photos with your chi is another fantastic way to celebrate. Whether you are taking photos on your walk, or setting up a Valentine’s Day photo shoot, these are memories you’ll get to keep with you forever.

Some photo shoot ideas:

  • A kissing booth
  • Your dog playing with a new heart shaped toy
  • Photos taken at sundown
  • Photos with a lipstick kiss on the dog

Valentine’s Day is a fun day for photos. Don’t be afraid to get a little whimsical with them! Part of the joy of having pets is taking the time to be silly, and revel in these tiny moments together.

Valentine’s Day is about spending time with those you love. If you want to share this day with your best friend, these ideas can help you get a good start on a memorable day.
